A short long background story

...my attempt at a short story detailing "how we found out".

Rewind back to the first week of November, the week we were to leave on our cruise.

Both Monday and Tuesday mornings I'd woken up and gone running before work. After each run I thought it was odd I didn't have the slightest hint of cramps, since I always get them when I am running, right before I get my monthly visitor. I was thinking to myself "oh great, I am gonna get this crud the day we step on the boat. How lovely, I get to be in swimsuits all week long."

Wednesday morning rolls around, I go running. Same outcome. I am seriously perplexed. We are leaving the.next.day. Ughhhh.

So, I just so happen to have one last test under the counter. I mean, yes, we'd been "trying" for a few months. But honestly the month prior we'd been so busy with the new house construction, the contract on our old house, etc...that I couldn't have told you when my last cyle was or when the "opportune times" were.

*Perhaps I should have prefaced this post as being a bit TMI.

Anywho, so I take the test and no sooner can I put the cap on the top and turn it over to wait for the results, when viola!...there they were, 2 pink lines, plain as day, neither of which were the slightest bit faint. Two bold pink lines.

All I remember was, gasping in shock, I cupped my hands over my mouth and kept saying "oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh". Then I prayed. Then I cried (happy tears, of course).

And of course, Jordan had already left for work. And there was NO way I was going to call or email him any news of this magnitude. So, there I was, with the biggest piece of news ever and a whole friggin' day to go to work, normal as always, and hold it inside 'til that evening. Lemme tell ya, that was THE longest day ever!

All that day I was trying to figure out how to tell Jordan without just blurting it out before he could even put his cark in Park in the garage. (I may or may not have a tendency to be about as patient as a 2 year old.)

So, the final idea settled on was to buy a book of baby names and tape the pregnancy test to the front of it and leave it in Jordo's chair in the living room. I put it there and was just pacing, waiting for the dude to get home. Soon enough, he did. He walked straight up to his chair and sat down. All the while I'm in the kitchen trying to hide my face, which is grinning from ear to ear. He sits in silence then says "hey babe, what is this? Are you about to take a pregnancy test?" then another pause, as he looks closer at the stick and sees the 2 lines...then says "whoah, babe...are you pregnant?!?!?!?". The rest is definitely too cheesy and just plain dorky to share.

So, there you have it. The attempted (read: failed) short version of how we both discovered our little one was on its way!

The rest of that night we were trying to pack for our trip the next morning, all the while giggling and just soaking in our big news.

So, without knowing it, our trip to the French West Indies of the Caribbean ended up being our "Babymoon" of sorts. No adult beverages for me. We cancelled the zip line through the rainforest and the bike and hike tour. Instead, we opted for massages and lounging on the beaches at each stop.

Luckily, since I was only 4 weeks at that point, I was not feeling nauseous or having too many food aversions yet. Thank goodness because that would have made for one long week on a rocking cruise ship.

Crazy to think our little lemon (thank you, Baby Center, week 14 update) has already been to so many different countries...such the little traveler they are :).

Awesome news!! I know this is so dorky, but I had a *feeling* this was coming when I noticed you weren't drinking on your cruise. I think I'm hyper-sensitive to all the "signals" since I seem to be surrounded by pregnant gals. Congrats!!
